Two 20,000 Gallon Per Day Systems / Metalworking Wastewater

Project Description

In October 2004 the first of two, 20,000 gallon per day VACOM systems was delivered. The second was delivered in 2006. The Vacom systems are an integral part of the foundation around which Toyota developed its automotive manufacturing facility in Jackson, Tennessee.

This facility is the automotive industry’s first “zero discharge” plant in North America. The VACOM systems enable Toyota to continually recycle the same water over and over in its manufacturing process. This minimizes the purchase and use of water from the local municipality and the additional discharge burden to the community.

The systems are designed to remove coolants, cutting oils, metals, and mold release agents.

An ultrafiltration process follows this process to remove any remaining volatile compounds, and pure water is returned to start the process once again.
